Born on 21 Jun 1891 in Weybridge, Surrey son of Horace James and Amy Florence Petley, later of "Ormesby", Langley Road, Beckenham, Kent.


Educated at the Royal Masonic School 1899-1908 he became a bank clerk in London.

Wartime Service

Enlisted at London but he was rejected as medically unfit. He rejoined in Mar 1915 and entered France on 2 Sep 1916 and was killed in action at Leuze Wood near Combles.
