Pre War

Born in 1895 in Ware, Hertfordshire son of George and Mary Anne Phypers and was living in East Street, Ware in 1901 and 1911 and at 51 New Road, Ware in 1915. He was a butcher.

Wartime Service

Enlisted at Ware on 23 Nov 1915 formerly 25338, Bedford Regiment, entered France on 1 Jul 1916 arriving at Etaples on 2 Jul 1916. He was attached to the 20th Manchester Regiment and was wounded by a gunshot wound to the shoulder on 3 Sep 1916 and repatriated home on 8 Sep. After treatment in the 5th London General Hospital he was granted furlough in Ware from 3 Oct to 13 Oct 1916. He returned to France on 25 Feb 1917 via Folkestone and Boulogne and joined his regiment in the Filed on 18 Mar 1917 and was killed in action in Belgium.
