Pre War

Herbert Banks was born in 1892 in Stebbing, Essex, the son of Jesse William and Sarah Ann Banks. On the 1911 Census he was living with his family in High Street, Stebbing, near Chelmsford and working as a farm labourer.

Wartime Service

Herbert initially served in the Essex Regiment under reg no. 3572. He served in the Balkans from 11 December 1915 and died of pneumonia in Egypt.

Additional Information

N.B. Some records incorrectly transcribed regimental number as 250915. His father Jesse received a war gratuity of £24 10s 3d.
