Son of Alfred and Lucretia (nee WOODROW) BARKER of West Hampstead, London.
His parents married 1883 in the St Pancras, London, district. Alfred died either 1921 in the Islington, London, district aged 63 or 1931 in the Edmonton, Middx, district aged 74; Lucretia died 1940 in the Uxbridge, Middx, district aged 79.
Alfred was born 8 February 1889 in St John’s [Wood?], London, and baptised 17 June 1898 at Emmanuel Church, West Hampstead.
On the 1891 Census, aged 4 he lived in Hampstead, with his parents and four siblings. On the 1901 Census, an errand boy aged 14, he still lived in Hampstead, with his parents and five siblings. On the 1911 Census, a Private in the 2nd Battalion Royal Fusiliers aged 23, he was stationed in Jubbulpore, India.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in London 21 August 1905 for Short Service: a carriage cleaner aged 18, 5’4″ tall, C of E. and served in the 5th Battalion Middlesex Regiment. He was transferred to the Army Reserve 15 December 1913, and was mobilised at Hounslow, Middx, 5 August 1914. He was formerly Private L/11626 Royal Fusiliers, and suffered a gun shot wound to the left arm and side 11 October 1914. He was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914 Star medals, his qualifying date being 7 September 1914, and was killed in action.
