Arthur was born in 1891 in Buckland, Herts to William and Mary. In 1901 the family were living in Audley End. He married Maud on 21 November 1914 in Saffron Walden, Essex. Listed as son of William barker of Audley End Village, Essex and husband of Maud Barker, 12 Debden Road, Saffron Walden.
On some documents he has listed himself as born in Buntingford others as born in Buckland which is about 4 miles north of Buntingford.
