Watford Borough Roll of Honour, St James' Church Memorial, Watford Fields

Pre War

Son of James Samuel and Adelaide (nee HICKS) POTTER.

His parents married 22 September 1881 at St Andrew’s, Enfield, Middx.  Adelaide died 1926 in Watford aged 66, and was buried 28 January in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; James died 1 October 1943 in Watford aged 85, and was buried 6 October, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.

Edward was born c1881 in Enfield, and resided in Watford.

On the 1881, 1891 and 1901 Census, he is proving elusive.  On the 1911 census, a Rifleman aged 30, 2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade, he was stationed in Fort William.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in London; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914 Star medals, his qualifying date being 7 November 1914, and was killed in action.  

Additional Information

Unfortunately, Edward’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing. Has a entry in the National Roll of the Great War. His brother James died 26 August 1917 and also features on Watford Borough Roll of Honour.
