Pre War

 Thomas was born on 19 Feb 1886 in Harpenden to George Starkins, a farm Labourer, and Louisa (nee Hale).


The family had moved to Hendon on the 1891 Census. By the 1901 Census the family were living in Marshall Street, Folkestone, Kent. On the 1911 Census Thomas was lodging in Garden City, Edgware being a ground labourer. He had 3 brothers and 6 sisters. He married Jessie K Knight in 1913.

Wartime Service

Thomas joined the County of London Regiment (designated as Territorial Force but still first line) as Private 6560 but was renumbered as 612776 when he was posted to 19th (St Pancras) Battalion.


Later he was attached to 7th (City of London) Battalion. Thomas was killed in action during the advance in to Artois on 13 Oct 1918

Additional Information

War Gratuity of £13 and arrears of £1 0s 10d was paid to his widow.


Brother Fred was a Private in Bedfordshire Regt in France & Salonika. Brother Joseph was a Driver in RASC serving in Egypt and Palestine. Both survived.
