Pre War

William Theodore Pratt was born in Wendy, Cambridgeshire in 1898 the son of Charles and Alice Pratt and one of five children. 


On the 1901 Census the family were living at The Green, Wendy, nr Royston, Herts where his father was working as a shepherd on a farm. They remained there in 1911 and 12 year old William was at school. 

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Hitchin, Herts and served with the 7th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment.


He died of wounds on 27 April 1918, aged 19, probably from the action at the Second Battle of Villers-Bretonneux three days earlier, and is buried in Longpre-les-Corps Saints British Cemetery, Somme, France. 

Additional Information

His mother received a war gratuity of £9 10s and pay owing of £10 6s 1d. She also received a pension of 5 shillings a week.
