Pre War

Born on 21 Nov 1885 in Kensington, London son of Benjamin George and Frances Mary Anne (Knight) Battson later of The Chase, West Horsley, Surrey. Educated at Haileybury College 1900-03. He married Olive May Short on 13 Jan 1916 and they lived in the Close, West Horsley, Surrey. He was a clerk at the Stock Exchange.

Wartime Service

Enlisted Royal Navy on 15 Nov 1905, worked up to Petty Officer and then became Sub-Lieutenant on H.M.S. Queen Mary on 3 Jan 1916 and was appointed Lieutenant on 4 Jan 1917 on HMS Waterfly, a mine sweeper built in Abadan in the summer of 1915. She was used on the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. He died of illness.
