Pre War

Frederick was born in 1896 in Harpenden to Lizzie Ridge Reeves. His mother seems to have been in domestic service in London.

By 1911 Frederick was a messenger at Kingston on Thames Barracks (Regimental Depot for East Surrey Regiment). He enlisted in East Surrey regiment as Private 10859. From his serial number he would have enlisted after Jan 1914 but prior to Aug 1914. His 18th birthday would have been early 1914.

Wartime Service

He went to France 27 April 1915 and joined the 1st Battalion there on 5 May 1915. The East Surreys were part of 5 division who were detailed for the attack and fighting for High Wood on the Somme.

Frederick was killed in action on 27 Jul 1916. His remains were not recovered and he is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing.
