Born 1893 in Brecknock, Breconshire son of Rev Matthew Albert and Helen Campbell Bayfield, rector of St Mary’s Church, Hertingfordbury, Herts. in 1911.

Wartime Service

Entered the Navy Lists on 15 Sep 1910 as Midshipman. Aboard H.M.S. London in the far East on 2 April 1911. Sub Lieutenant in 1913. Served in Dover Patrol 1915-16 in "Nubian" and "Mohawk”.


Killed in action at the Battle of Jutland when H.M.S. Black Prince was shelled and sunk by the German battleship Thuringen.
