Pre War

Born on 13 Aug 1882 in High Street, Watton at Stone, Herts. son of William George and Emma Beadle and baptised 8 Oct 1882 at Watton. He married Florence Mary Parker of 254, Mill Cottages, Watton, Herts. on 12 Feb 1910 in Hertford and had two sons. He worked as a labourer.

Wartime Service

Enlisted 21 Feb 1916 in Hitchin when he was living in Ashwell Cottage, Watton. Joined 27th Bn. and entered France on 12 Oct 1916. He then transferred to 4th Bn. and arrived at the battalion at Etaples on 17 Feb 1917. He was injured by a gunshot wound to the head on 1 May 1915 but recovered and returned to duty the next day. He went missing during the third battle of Ypres, Passchendaele. His body was not recovered.
