Born on 6 Oct 1869 in Mussouri, India son of Col. Henry Glover Puckle (Madras Staff Corps) and Cecilia Emily (Tod) Puckle. Educated at the United Services College 1880-81, Peterhouse College, Cambridge and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant South Wales Borderers on 21 Jan 1893 and transferred to the Army Service Corps on 1 Oct 1894. Served in the South African War 1899-1900 on Lord Roberts’ Staff. He married Mary Fellows (later Mrs Tabor) on 3 Dec 1896 in St Peter’s, Eaton Square, London.

Wartime Service

He was appointed Lieutenant Colonel on 30 Oct 1914. Entered France in Aug 1914 as one of the first three officers to land prior to the arrival of the British Expeditionary Force. Having returned to England in Jun 1915 he was ordered to Palestine but was lost in the sinking of the H.M. Transport “Arcadia” torpedoed near Stephanos, Greece.

United Services College, Westward Ho, Devon amalgamated with Imperial Service College in Windsor in 1912 and then moved to Haileybury College, Hertford Heath in 1942.
