Born at Rickmansworth about 1898, lived at Kingsbury, Middlesex. Son of Mr. H V and Mrs. E Purkis of 2, Roe End, Kingsbury, London NW.

In the 1911 census the family is living at 9 Station Road, Rickmansworth. His father Harry Victor, a boarding house keeper, mother Ellen Fanny both 45, his sister Kelly 15 and he is 13.

Recorded as enlisting in Marylebone, London.

Wartime Service

Killed in action at Pilkem Road on 17th February 1916 in trench warfare as the enemy shelled the canal bank northeast of Ypres.
