Pre War

Son of Charles and Janet (nee PAYNE) TAYLOR of Watford.

His parents married 20 March 1886 at St Mary’s, Watford. Janet died 1928 in Watford aged 63, and was buried 25 April in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Charles died 1936 in Watford aged 80, and was buried 29 February, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.

William was born 26 July 1892 in Watford, and baptised 26 August 1892 at St Mary’s, Watford.

On the 1901 Census, aged 8 he lived in Watford, with his parents and five siblings. On the 1911 Census, a brewer’s labourer aged 18, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and four siblings.

Wartime Service

He enlisted 11 November 1914 for the Duration of the War: a labourer aged 22, next-of-kin his father of Watford.

He was formerly Private 17800 Bedfordshire Regiment, and Private 7588 Yorkshire Regiment.

He transferred to the Royal Flying Corps 15 February 1918, and automatically became part of the R.A.F. 1 April 1918.

He was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, and was killed in an accident.
