Son of Arthur James and Elizabeth Mary (nee CLARKE) BLAKE of Lowestoft.
His parents married 1880 in the Mutford, Suffolk, district. Arthur died 1919 aged 64; Elizabeth died 1931 aged 74; both in the Mutford district.
Cyril was born 1889 in Lowestoft, and resided in Lowestoft.
On the 1891 Census, aged 1 he lived in Lowestoft, with his parents and three siblings. On the 1901 Census, aged 11 he still lived in Lowestoft, with his parents and four siblings. On the 1911 Census, a book compositor aged 21, he still lived in Lowestoft, with his parents and two siblings.
Wartime Service
His attestation was for Short Service (3 years with the Colours) and he enlisted 9 September 1914 at Lowestoft, Suffolk, for the Duration of the War, into the 9th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment: a compositor aged 25, unmarried, 5’7″ tall. He embarked 30 August 1915. Was admitted to 17 Casualty Clearing Station 30 October 1915, and returned to England aboard Hospital Ship Newhaven 3 November 1915, where he was admitted to the Metropolitan Hospital, North London until 4 January 1916 suffering from debility and influenza, and afterwards sent to Eastbourne Convalascent Hospital until 20 January 1916.
He embarked again 29 June 1916 to Le Havre, France, and joined the 16th Battalion London Regiment 11 July 1916. He was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 30 August 1915, and was killed in action.
