Pre War

Born at Hale, Cheshire. Son of John and Margaret Simmons Rigby, of Moat House, Hertingfordbury, Herts.

Wartime Service

Entered the Navy List on 20 Sep 1914 as 2nd Lieutenant. Member of Royal Marine Siege Battalion in 1915. Lieutenant on H.M.S. Barham from 8 Feb 1917. Served in France and at Gallipoli.

Additional Information

Charles and his brother Richard are also commemorated on the family headstone in Hertingfordbury (St. Mary) Churchyard. Charles part of the inscription reads:
