Walter was the son of Reuben and Betsy Risebero of 1, St Peter’s Cottages, New Town, Hatfield, Herts. and born circa 1895.

The 1911 Census lists Walter, as 16, is living with his parents and siblings at St. Peters Cottages, Hatfield.  Walter is working as a car man (farming).  Father as a platelayer for the GN Railway. Mother’s name is Betsy. 

Officially recorded as born in Hatfield and was living there when he enlisted in Ampthill.

The Bishop’s Hatfield Parish Magazine of December 1915, in the sixteenth list of men mobilised from Hatfield, recorded: “Riseboro, Walter – St Peter’s Cottages – 4th Beds. Regiment.” and in July 1917: “We have to chronicle still further losses among our men of Hatfield.....Private Walter Risbro’ .......has been killed in action.”


Awarded the Victory Medal and British War Medal.

Additional Information

He is the brother of Archibald who also died.


Memorial book, incorrectly, gives d.o.d.  25/05/1919.
