Pre War
Born in London son of William Brace and was living in Much Hadham.
Wartime Service
Enlisted at London, entered France on 15 Aug 1914 His regiment arrived at Rouen in France on 17th August 1914. By the 21st they were in action opposing the German Cavalry at Mons. William was missing presumed killed in action near Ypres. In October, they were fighting as infantry, holding the lines at Messines. On one day in October (possibly the 30th) fifty percent of the Regiment became casualties.
