Bishop's Stortford Town Memorial

Pre War

John Bradford was born in 1879 in Bishop's Stortford to William and Eliza Bradford.  On the 1881 Census they were living at Castle Street, Bishop's Stortford. By the 1911 Census John was boarding at 24 East Street, Saffron Walden and working as a labourer at the sewerage works.

Wartime Service

He enlisted at Bedford into the 8th Bn Bedfordshire Regiment. He died  at a casualty clearing station from wounds possibly received in the Battle of Flers-Courcelette a few days earlier. 

Additional Information

His father William received a war gratuity of £3 and pay owing of £2 9s 9d.
