Royal Masonic School Memorial, Rickmansworth

Born on 12 Oct 1892 in Hounslow son of Rev. Charles Herbert Roberts later of Nately Scures Rectory, Basingstoke. Educated at the Royal Masonic School 1903-08. He married Kathleen Ella Fryer on 10 Jan 1917 in Southampton and they lived at 9 Bouverie Avenue, Salisbury with two children (twins) and then in Clifton, Bristol.

Wartime Service

Enlisted on 10 Aug 1914 in Motorcyclist Section, Royal Engineers and entered France on 14 Aug 1914. Served as dispatch rider stationed at St Omer until 1916. He became messenger to the Commander in Chief, Sir Douglas Haig until the Armistice. He died in hospital in Paris of influenza and pneumonia.

Additional Information

Brother of Herbert Wallace Roberts who died in Italy in 1918 and is also commemorated on this memorial.
