Son of Mary (nee LEWIS or HUGHES) ROBERTS of Watford, and the late Richard or Robert William ROBERTS.

His parents married 1884 in the Ruthin, Denbigh, district. Mary died 19 April 1927 in Watford aged 76, and was buried 22 April in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford.

Robert was born 30 November 1884 in Watford, and attended first St Andrew’s Infants’ School, Watford; then St Andrew’s Boys’ School from 1 March 1892.  He resided in Watford, and was formerly on the staff of the Chief Accountant to the London and North Western Railway Company, Euston Station, London.

He has an entry in the National Probate Calendar.

On the 1891 Census, aged 6 he lived in Watford, with his widowed mother and one sibling. On the 1901 Census, a railway clerk aged 16, he still lived in Watford, with his widowed mother and one sibling. On the 1911 Census, a railway clerk aged 26, he still lived in Watford, with his widowed mother and one sibling.

Wartime Service

He enlisted at St Paul’s Churchyard, London; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 30 June 1915, and was presumed killed in action. 

Additional Information

Unfortunately, Robert’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
