Pre War

Born and resident of Baldock. Enlisted Bedford. Before joining the army, Percy was employed as a gardener by T. Veasey in Baldock.

Wartime Service

He was posted to France in September 1915 and had been wounded on two previous occasions. He was transferred to Dover hospital from France suffering from severe shrapnel wounds that had resulted in the loss of his right leg and eye and had caused severe head injuries (a fractured skull). He was subsequently taken to King George hospital in Stamford Street, London where he later died.


His funeral at St. Mary's Church in Baldock was accorded full military honours. The coffin, covered with the Union Jack, was carried on a gun carriage drawn by six horses.
