Born in 1897 in Hertford son of Charles and Clara Brittain and living in 27 Raynham Street, Hertford in 1911 and later at 5 Ware Road, Hertford. He was a factory hand.

Wartime Service

Enlisted at Hertford on 9 Sep 1914 formerly 265783 Private 1st Hertfordshire Regiment, entered France on 23 Jan 1915 and served three periods in France despite being wounded on 31 Jul 1917.


He passed through several regiments until he ended up in the 24th London on 25 Aug 1918 and died of wounds received on 3 Sep 1918 in the 5th General Hospital in Rouen.
