Pre War

George Henry Brooks was born on 28 Oct 1886 (baptised 1 Apr 1887) in Tring to Stephen Brooks, labourer, and Eliza (nee Anderson).


On the 1881 Census the family of parents, Clara (born 1867), Sarah  (born 1872), Emily (born 1874),  Alice (born 1878), Barbara (born 1885) were living at Red Lion Yard, Gt Berkampstead. 


On the 1891 Census the family of parents, Sarah , Alice, Barbara, George and Martha (born 1890) were living at 16, Wingrave Road, Tring.


George’s father died in 1899.


On the 1901 Census George was living with his widowed mother Eliza  and younger sister Martha near the Pheasant, Wigginton, Berkhamsted.


No record of George was found on the 1911 Census 

Wartime Service

No Service Record was found for George who may have enlisted in 1914/15 in Army Service Corps as Private T4/124596 and at sometime  was serving in Egypt at the Base Horse Depot  (137 Company ASC). He was taken ill and died on 10 Jul 1916 at Metras Camp.

Additional Information

War Gratuity of £3 and arrears of £13 8s 6d was divided between his brother Frederick and nephews Thomas, Frederick C and Albert.
