Pre War

Born in 1896 in Buckland, Herts. son of Tobias and Harriet Rogers and living there in 1901 and 1911 as a farm labourer.

Wartime Service

He entered France on 27 Apr 1915. In May 1915 the battalion was in the trenches around Hill 60 near Ypres. There was a heavy gas attack by the enemy followed by fierce fighting in the British trenches. In two days the battalion lost 3 officers and about 290 men.
