Pre War

Son of Alfred Herbert and the late Eliza (nee SMITH) TERRY.


His parents married 1890 in the Aylesbury district.  Eliza died 1912 in the Aylesbury district aged 49; Alfred died 1949 in Watford aged 82, and was buried 19 May in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford.


Edward was born 1892 in Marsworth, Herts (sic Bucks), and resided in Watford.


On the 1901 Census, aged 9 he lived in Northchurch, Herts, with his parents and five siblings.  On the 1911 Census, a farm labourer aged 19 he lived at Buckland Wharf near Tring, Herts, with his parents and six siblings.


Officially recorded as born in Marsworth, Herts (sic Bucks) and was living in Watford when he enlisted in Aylesbury, Bucks.


Wartime Service

He enlisted in Aylesbury, Bucks; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 5 December 1914, and was killed in action at Ctesiphon.  

Additional Information

There is an article about Edward in the Bucks Herald dated 15 January 1916. Unfortunately, Edward’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing. His brother Albert died 8 November 1915 and also features on this Roll of Honour
