Richard Lang Roscoe was born in Hampstead London in 1897. He was the elder son of Philip Roscoe (Solicitor) and Margaret (nee Lang) of Hampstead, London.


He attended Aldenham School.


Wartime Service

As he was gazetted as Second Lieutenant on 19 Oct 1914 he probably enlisted on the outbreak of the Great War and his service seems to have been only with 22 (Kensington) Battalion Royal Fusiliers.


He was Mentioned in Despatches on 15 Jun 1916. His Military Cross was awarded in 1917 New Year Honours List at which time he was a Lieutenant /Acting Captain. He is recorded Died of wounds or Killed in Action dependent on which record is consulted.


His remains lie in Contay British Cemetery on the Somme Battlefield.


Additional Information

His father, Mr P Roscoe of 58 Redlington Road, Hampstead, London NW3. ordered his headstone inscription: "ALL IS OVER AND DONE RENDER THANKS TO THE GIVER".
