Pre War

Son of Alfred and Sarah Martha (nee LEGGETT) ROSHIER of Attleborough, Norfolk.

His parents married 14 November 1891 at St Mary’s, Gressenhall, Norfolk.  Alfred died 1935 in the Wayland, Norfolk, district aged 80; Sarah died 1955 in the Acle, Norfolk, district aged 87.

Edward was born 11 October 1897 in Norwich, Norfolk [though the birth is registered as Edwin], and baptised 9 February 1898 at St Mary’s, Attleborough.  He resided in Watford.

On the 1901 Census, aged 3 he lived in Attleborough, with his parents and two siblings.  On the 1911 Census, at school aged 13 he lived near Great Ellingham, Norfolk, with his parents and three siblings.

Officially recorded as born in Norwich and was living in Watford when he enlisted in there.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Watford; was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and was killed in action during the Battle of Arras, the capture of Gavrelle.

Additional Information

Unfortunately, Edward’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
