Born on 23 Oct 1884 in Little Barford, Bedfordshire son of Nathaniel and Hester Frances (Alington) Royds later of "St. Helen's ", Chesterton Road, Cambridge. Educated at Haileybury College 1898-99. He was later living in Ramcyfergat, Wolmaransstad, South Africa.
