Pre War

Born on 6 Oct 1869 in Moorshedabad, Bengal, India son of William Boyd and Alice Katherine (Woodrow) Buckle. Educated at Haileybury College 1882-83. Commissioned on 3 May 1890 2nd Lieutenant South Staffordshire Regiment, made Lieutenant on 15 Jul 1891 and Adjutant on 1 Jan 1894. Served in West Africa from 12 Nov 1898 and promoted Captain on 16 Oct 1899. Severely wounded at Paardeberg in 1900. Mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 4 Sep 1901).

He married Ethel Agnes Bucknall in Oct 1901 in St George’s, Hanover Square, London. Promoted Major on 28 Dec 1908.

Wartime Service

Entered Belgium on 7 Oct 1914 and took part in the First Battle of Ypres where he was again severely wounded. Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and appointed C.O. 2nd Bn. Northamptonshire regiment on 24 Jun 1915. Mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 17 Feb 1915). Wounded at Contalmaison on 7 Jul 1916 with multiple gunshot wounds to head and limbs and was invalided back to England. Commanded training battalions thereafter. Died in Channock Chase Military Hospital.
