William Walter Rushforth was born in 1890 at Little Walden, Saffron Walden, Essex, the only son of Walter Henry and Eliza Rushforth, and baptised at Saffron Walden on 29 June 1890. On the 1911 Census he was living with his family at Ravenstock Green, Saffron Walden and working as a Cowman.

Wartime Service

He enlisted at Saffron Walden, Essex and served in France from 4 October 1915 with the Suffolk Regiment.  He was killed during the Battle of Cambrai, but his body was not recovered for burial. 

Additional Information

His mother received a war gratuity of £14 and pay owing of £26 6s 2d. She also received a pension of 5 shillings a week from 6 November 1918.
