Born 1892 in Hoddesdon son of James and Eliza Burgess and living in 7 Burford Terrace, Hoddesdon in 1911. Husband of Evelyn Louisa Burgess of Park Road, Stanstead Abbotts, Hertfordshire.

Wartime Service

Enlisted in the Bedfordshire Regt, attached to 10th Batt. Worcestshire Regt. Took part in 1st Battle of the Somme, in assaults on Ancre Heights and Pozieres, which was taken and then lost in German counter attacks.
