Pre War

Born in 1888 in Bayford, Herts. son of Thomas and Emily Ann (Mead) Tharby of 2 Elm Cottages, Wareside, Herts. and christened in Wareside, Herts. on 15 Apr 1888. He was living in School House Green, Wareside in 1891 and 1901 He married Caroline Janet (Player) Tharby, of Bayford, Hertford in Jun 1912 and had two children. He worked as a farm labourer.

Wartime Service

Enlisted in Hertford. In Mar 1917 the battalion was involved in the defence of the Suez Canal from attack by Turkish forces.
