Pre War

Samuel Saggs was born in Hampstead, Middx in 1890 to Frederick and Emily Saggs, where the family lived at 51 Fleet Road. By the 1911 Census the family had moved to 80 Barrells Down, Bishop's Stortford, Herts and Samuel was working as a  General Labourer in the building trade. 

Wartime Service

His date of entry into the Theatre of War is noted as 6 November 1914. He also served in Herts Regt, 1st Btn, (Reg. No. 2165) and latterly in the  Royal Defence Corps (Reg. No. 927149).


He died in Ware, Herts from "disease" on 5 August 1920 and is buried in Bishop's Stortford Old Cemetery.
