Pre War

Born on 19 Feb 1895 in Auchtermuchty, Alloa, Ayrshire son of Dr. Alfred Hugh and Frances Burns later of Croydon.


Educated at the Royal Masonic School 1905-11, he worked in the insurance business.

Wartime Service

Enlisted on 6 Aug 1914 formerly 2038 12th London Regiment and entered France in Dec 1914. In 1915 he was invalided home with frost-bite in his feet and was in hospital for four months.


He served in England until he volunteered again for France in Jul 1918 despite severe trouble with his feet. He was killed by a machine gun at Ephey while attacking the enemy.
