Pre War

Martin Busby was born in 1891, in Wigginton, Herts, son of Robert Baker (B 1861 in Wigginton, Herts) and Leah Baker (B 1858 in Wigginton, Herts).

1901 Census records Martin aged 10, at school, living with his parents, brothers George 4 and Arthur 2, in Wigginton, Herts.

By 1911 Martin now aged 20 was working as a Golfman on Estate, living with his parents, brothers George 14, Arthur 12 and sister Thurser May 19, in Wigginton Bottom, Herts.

Wartime Service

Martin enlisted in the County Town of Hertford, posted to the Hertfordshire Regiment, initially with the Service No. 3810, and then 266136.

Martin died on 24th January 1918, he is buried in the CWGC Canada Farm Cemetery, Ypres, Belgium. Grave Ref; III. G. 3.

The inscription on his grave reads, "GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN".

Additional Information

The value of his effect were £12-8s-7d, Pay Owing and £14-10s-0d, War Gratuity, which went to his father Robert Baker.
