Charles Sansom Bushell was born 1899 in Tring to William Joseph Bushell, canal boat builder, and Margaret Mary (nee Sansom).


On the 1901 Census the family of parents, Nellie (born 1897)and William were living at 61, Wingrave Road, Tring.


On the 1911 Census the family of parents, Nellie and William were living at Meads Brickfields, Iver, Bucks.


His parents later lived at Gamnel, New Mill, Tring, Herts.

Wartime Service

No Service Record was found for Charles. He enlisted in Duke of Edinburgh’s (Wiltshire) Regiment as Private 36136 and was in 2nd Battalion as part of 21 Brigade 30th Division possibly joining in 1918 and taking part in the advance in Flanders advance (18 Aug- 6 Sep 1918). Charles was killed in action on 19 Aug 1918.

Additional Information

War Gratuity of £3 and arrears of £7 15s 4d was paid to his father.
