Pre War

Son of George Massey and Maria Elcey/Elsie (nee SELMES) SAUNDERS of Watford.

His parents married 10 August 1878 at All Saints, Mountfield, Sussex.  Maria died 1 October 1925 in Watford aged 74, and was buried 5 October in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; George died 10 October 1945 in Watford aged 92, and was buried 18 October, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.

Archibald was born 12 November 1891 in Horley, Surrey, and baptised 14 February 1892 at St Bartholomew, Horley.

On the 1901 Census, aged 9 he lived in Bushey, Herts, with his parents and six siblings.  On the 1911 Census, a pipe case maker aged 19, he was a lodger in Watford, with his parents and no siblings.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in London; was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and died in Palestine.

Unfortunately, Archibald’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
