Arthur Frank Saunders was born in 1892 in Radlett, Herts, the son of Frederick and Caroline Saunders, and baptised in Radlett on 17 April 1892.


On the 1901 Census the family were living at Cobden Hill, Radlett where his father was working as a Gardener.

Wartime Service

He would have already been a regular solder at the the outbreak of war and served in France from 16 August 1914 with 'A' Squadron, 15th Hussars. 


He died on 24 August 1914 during the Battle of Mons. His body was not recovered for burial or not identified and his name is commemorated on the La Ferte-sous-Jouarre Memorial, France. 


Additional Information

His father received a war gratuity of £5 and pay owing of £11 15s 1d. His mother received a pension of 5s a week from 6 November 1918.
