Pre War
Christopher Ralph Bye was born in Anstey, Hertfordshire in 1893, the son of David and Mary Bye and one of seven children.
On the 1901 Census the family were living at Cave Hall, Wyddial, Nr. Buntingford, Herts, where his father worked as a shepherd. They remained there in 1911 at which time Christopher was working as a farm labourer.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Royston, Herts, joining the Bedfordshire Regiment and serving with the 1st Battalion in France from 27 April 1915.
He was wounded in action and admitted to the 14th Field Ambulance on 7 May 1916, but died from his wounds on 11 May 1916, aged 23, and is buried in Habarcq Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
Additional Information
His father received a war gratuity of £7 10s and pay owing of £3 18s 10d. His mother received a pension of 5 shillings a week.
