Pre War

Son of the late James and Mary Callarde, of St. Albans; husband of Edith Amy (later Mrs Gransby, of Kate's Cot, Arkley, Barnet, Herts). They had two children Ethel Florence (b27/10/1905) and Evelyn Amy (b13/2/2010)


He enlisted Ox & Bucks in Deptford Kent on 22 Nov 1892. From the 22 Nov 1892 to 25 Jan 1895 he was on Home Service, The 26 Jan 1895 - 23 Oct 1903 India. From 26 Nov 1903 - 21 Nov 1913 (Home service likely to have been Moore Barracks in Hythe ) and 1911 - 1913 Electoral Roll living at 4 G Block Moore Barracks, Shornciffe Camp, Hythe. Married Quarters. 


On the 21 Nov 1913 he was  discharged on completion of his second period of engagement


Awards: India medal 1895 with clasps Punjab 1897 -1898, Tirah 1897-1898. Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, also entitled to 5 good conduct badges.


He was living in Arkley when he enlisted (probably recalled from the Army Reserve List) in Aylesbury for service in the First World War.

He served in the United Kingdom.


Died of acute bronchitis at Parkhouse Camp Hospital, Salisbury, as Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant (Warrant Officer).

Additional Information

Survived by his wife and two daughters, Ethel Florence and Evelyn Amy. Back pay and gratuities, £14 4s 11d which was paid to his widow. and a pension of 23 shillings was paid from 2/10/1916 to her at The Cottage, Arkely House, Arkely, Barnet.
