Wartime Service

No Service Record was found for Harry who enlisted as Private 14741 in the Lincolnshire Regiment in Jan 1915.

Following his training he was posted into the 8th (Service) Battalion, a part of 63 Brigade, 21 Division. Harry went to France with his Battalion and Division on 10 Sep 1915. The Division assembled near Tilques. There was little chance of gaining any experience, as they were immediately involved in lengthy forced marches to join  the reserve for the British assault at Loos (25 Sep-8 oct). GHQ planning left it too far behind to be a useful reinforcement on the first day, but it was sent into action on 26 Sep, whereupon it suffered over 3,800 casualties for very little gain. Harry was reported Missing in this action on 26 Sep and his death was only presumed to been that in Oct 1916. (report in Halifax Daily Guardian dated 2 Nov 1916).
