Born on 27 Dec 1881 in China (probably Shanghai) son of James Henry and Emily Reid (Yuill) Scott. Educated at Haileybury College 1894-99, then Univ, Oxford, was called to the Bar, but never practised. His father was James Henry SCOTT, of the Greenock shipowner/shipbuilders Scotts. and Senior Partner in John Swire & Sons Limited (a major China Import/Export trading house), who was born in Largs, Ayrshire, but had connections in Aberdeen on his wife’s family’s side, where his father-in-law (James Yuill Scott’s grandfather) was residing in 1901.

Wartime Service

Entered France on 22 Jul 1915, served with the 20th Division and was killed in action at the Somme.
