Born on 8 Dec 1896 in South Africa son of John Thomas and Elizabeth Martha Carter later of Umtali, Rhodesia.


Educated at the Royal Masonic School 1905-12.

Wartime Service

Enlisted in Westminster, he entered France on 1 Nov 1914 and was invalided home in Sep 1915 because of an ear problem which subsequently made him deaf on one side. He returned to the front in Dec 1916 and was killed in his trench by a shell.
