Ernest was born in Layston, Buntingford to George and Emma. IN 1891 they were all living in Baldock Lane, Buntingford. By 1901 his mother had died, but they were still living in Baldock Lane. His father remained at Baldock Lane. Ernest married Lily Castle and when he died she was living at , Sun Lane, Hythe, Kent.
