Pre War

Louis was born on the 18th July 1900 the son of Alfred and Ruth Chalkley of Sunnycroft, Walkern, Hertfordshire.

Wartime Service

He joined the Royal Navy on the 26th August 1918 and was posted to HMS Pembroke, the name given to a shore barracks at Chatham, Kent, to undergo his initial training. It was here that he contracted Influenza and died from the effects of Pneumonia on the 25th October 1918.


He did not see any service overseas and, therefore, was not entitled to any campaign medals. His body was returned to home and is buried in the St. Lawrence Churchyard, Ardeley, Hertfordshire.
