Born on 16 Dec 1878 in Buckhurst Hill, Essex son of Alfred Henry and Elizabeth (Barnard) Clapham of Woodford Bridge, Essex. Educated at Haileybury College 1892-97 and Worcester College, Oxford and became a solicitor. He was unmarried.

Wartime Service

Obtained his commission on 29 Oct 1914 and served with the Egyptian Expeditionary Force from Mar 1916. He died in a Field Ambulance at Gaza of wounds received the previous day in action at the Battle of Gaza.
