Pre War

Son of Jane (nee SHAVE) and the late William COOPER.

His parents married 27 October 1870 at St John the Baptist, Little Maplestead, Essex.  William died 1881 in the Halstead district aged 35; Jane died 1931 in the Romford, Essex, district aged 85.

Sidney was born 1887 in Colchester, Essex, and resided in Watford.

On the 1891 Census, aged 3 he lived in Colchester, with his widowed mother and six siblings.  On the 1901 Census, aged 13 he still lived in Colchester, with his widowed mother and three siblings.  On the 1911 Census, an estate agent’s clerk aged 23, he still lived in Colchester, with his widowed mother and no siblings.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Watford; was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and was killed in action.  

Additional Information

There is an article about Sidney in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 25 November 1916.

Unfortunately, Sidney’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
