Pre War

Arthur was born on 30 October 1887 in Harpenden to Edward Snoxell, a railway platelayer, and Ann (nee Deamer). They were living at Moreton Lane, Harpenden.

By the 1911 Census Arthur was working as a Bricklayers Labourer and the family were living at Luton Road Harpenden.

Wartime Service

Arthur enlisted as a Private in the Hertfordshire Regiment at Hertford. This may have been around Oct/Nov 1914 as his service number was 3664. Later he was transferred to 13th Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment.

The 13th Sussex were in the Front Line at Lancashire Farm, Ypres about late June 1917. They were providing working and carrying parties each night for work around the front line and taking casualties. Arthur seems to have been killed during this time as the Battalion were withdrawn on 22nd June 1917.
